Sardine is one of the most delcate and tasty fish. Common way of cooking sardine across Kerala/India is in spicy gravy. The spicy flavours enhance the taste of sardine. Also, this one of the easisest way of cooking sardine curry. We are adding kashmiri chilli powder instead of normal chilli powder so that the heat of the dish will not be overpowering. This curry can be served with rice or mashed cassava/tapioca.

How to make Spicy Sardine Curry
What you’ll need
Sardine – 400 gm
Ginger (julienned) – 2 tbsp
Garlic (julienned) – 1 1/2 tbsp
Curry Leaves
Turmeric Powder – 1/2 tsp
Kashmiri Chilly Powder – 4 tbsp
Fenugreek Seeds – 1/4 tsp
Salt – 1 tsp
Coconut Oil – 6 tbsp
Cambogia – 5 (soaked in 3/4 cup of water)
Tips
- You can use any oil. But coconut oil would enhance the flavours.
- Add kashmiri chilli powder based on your taste.
How to make it
- Add 5 1/2 tbsp of coconut oil into a pot.
- Once the oil is hot, add 1/4 tsp of fenugreek seeds and mix.
- Add 2 tbsp of ginger, 1 1/2 tbsp of garlic and mix.
- Add curry leaves and mix.
- Add 1 tsp of salt and mix.
- Add 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder.
- Add 4 tbsp of kashmiri chilli powder and mix it well.
- Add soaked cambogia along with the water and mix. Add 1/4 cup of water and mix.
- Close and let it cook for 2 minutes.
- After 2 minutes add the cleaned fish and stir.
- Close and cook on a medium heat for 15 minutes.
- After 15 minutes mix it well by stirring the pot. Fish will be cooked well by this time.
- Add 1/2 tbsp of coconut oil and curry leaves.
- Close and take it off from the stove.
- Spicy Sardine curry is ready to serve.
