Chicken cooked in thick gravy, well flavoured with spices. This curry will go well with chapathi, parotta, appam or rice. This is a quick and easy recipe.

How to make Kerala style nadan kozhi curry
Ingredients
Chicken – 900 gm
Onion – 4
Tomato – 2
Garlic Cloves – 7
Ginger – 1 inch
Green Chilly – 3
Curry Leaves
Lime Juice – 1 tsp
Oil – 4 tbsp
Tumeric Powder – 3/4 tsp
Coriander Powder – 1 1/2 tsp
Hot Chilly Powder – 1 tsp
Kashmiri Chilly Powder – 2 tbsp
Chicken Masala – 3 tbsp
Salt – 2 1/2 tsp
Coconut Oil – 1/2 tbsp
Water – 1 Cup
Directions
- Crush 1 inch ginger and 7 garlic cloves
- Marinate the chicken using 1 tsp of salt, 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder, 1 tsp of Kashmiri chilly powder, 1/2 tbsp of crushed ginger&garlic, 1/2 tsp of lemon juice, 1 tbsp of oil and roughly chopped curry leaves
- Now slice the onion, tomato and slit green chilly as shown
- Place a pot on the stove and add 3 tbsp of oil. Once the oil is hot add sliced onion, curry leaves, green chilly, 1 1/4 tsp of salt and mix
- Now, add crushed ginger&garlic and mix. Close and cook for 1 minute
- After 1 minute, open the lid and mix everything. Close and cook for another 1 minute
- Now add 1/2 tsp of turmeric powder, 1 1/2 tsp of coriander powder and mix
- Add 3 tbsp of chicken masala, 1 tsp of hot chilly powder, 1 1/2 tbsp of kashmiri chilly powder and mix. If you want the curry to be less spicy, no need to add the hot chilly powder
- Now, add the chopped tomatoes and mix. Close and cook for 30 seconds
- Open the lid and mix it.
- Add the marinated chicken and mix it well
- Close and cook for 1 minute
- Open the lid, mix everything. Close and cook for another 2 minutes
- After 2 minutes, add 1/2 cup of water and mix
- Add 1/2 more cup of water and mix it
- Close and cook for 15 minutes in a medium flame/temperature
- Open and check if the chicken is cooked.
- Need some more time to cook. Close and cook for another 5 minutes
- Check the taste, add 1/4 tsp of salt if needed and mix
- Add 1/2 tbsp of coconut oil, curry leaves and mix. Close and keep it aside
- Nadan Chicken curry with spicy and thick gravy is ready to serve
